I have noticed a general lack of information regarding travel throughout Kenya and Tanzania on the internet. I am hoping this blog post will help somebody out in planning their trip.
Tips for crossing the Kenya-Tanzania Border via Namanga (Close to the border on the Tanzania side you will see a glimpse of Mt Kilimanjaro)
Bring American Dollars. Regardless of where you are from, US Dollars are the only form of currency accepted at this border crossing to pay for visas. They would be happy to exchange the currency for you with a small fee attached.
The cost of visas: The Kenyan visa costs $50 per person. The Tanzania visa costs $100 per person (unless you are from literally any country other than the US, then it is $50)
Your Kenyan visa allows for one re-entry from Tanzania
You can purchase your visa online, but the process will be just as long as you getting it in person.
Be prepared for the touristy souvenirs. The border crossing is just one of many places that women attempt to sell you beaded Maasai bracelets and necklaces along with other trinkets. A warning, if you mention you are American the price will double
If you do not want to deal with the headache of the Border you can always join the wildebeest migration or ran as fast a cheetah!
