Kyle and I recently took a trip to the historic city of Savannah, GA. While I have been many times, it was Kyle's first trip. We were able to share these experiences with Kirk, Kyle's brother, and Nkongolo, our friend visiting us from Brussels. Nkongolo loved the european feel of the city combined with the unique southern charm. Below are some of our favorite things from the trip.
Forsyth Park - Pack your picnic baskets because there is no better place in all of Savannah to enjoy a sunny afternoon. This is also a very popular wedding venue. We have seen multiple weddings in just the short time we were there.
Tybee Island - Looking to relax on the beach? Look no further than Tybee island. This cute beach town is complete wide sandy beaches, historic lighthouse and a large pier overlooking the ocean.
Walk River Street - River Street runs along the Savannah River in the heart of downtown. When you take a stroll down the charming cobblestone streets, you can see ships pass to one side and various restaurants and retail shops to the other. If you are in Savannah during a weekend, make sure to go to the market that is set up at Rousakis Riverfront Plaza. The market is typically filled with local art and unique souvenirs. Regardless of the day, make sure to stop by River Street Sweets to sample their world famous homemade pralines, a Savannah staple.
Ditch the Car - You would want to walk and immerse yourself in great food, endless parks and beautiful architecture. Around every corner is a new surprise, this is a city that is best explored on foot. If you get tired at any point, you can relax on a park bench, like our friend Forrest Gump, or take a tuk tuk or horse carriage to your next destination.
Wormsloe Plantation - Perhaps the most beautiful place in Savannah, however has a gloomy past that you will experience as you drive through the 822 acres of land. The real beauty of the plantation is right through the main gates. Where there is a mile and half long road covered by 100+ year old oak trees dripping in Spanish moss.
